Iraqi Citizens vs. Tsunami Victims
With the
recent tragedies in Southeast Asia there has been an international
outpouring of aid to the region. Over six million dollars
has been raised by the Red Cross alone. This does not count
the 800 million given by Australia, 674 million given by Germany
and 500 million given by Japan. To clear this up I believe
that this money is getting put to good use and everyone there
will benefit from it. My problem is with our government and
the media. While they cover and report car bombings, cities
taken and the death toll they say little to nothing about
Iraq’s citizens. As we pour money in to Southeast Asia
we do little to help the citizens of a country that is in
the same sort of situation. Just as the people of Southeast
Asia, the citizens of Iraq did not want this to happen and
could do nothing to stop it. The media shows pictures of small
children that are now homeless and without parents because
the tsunami has wiped everything out. But what about the children
in Iraq that are in the same situation because their parents
have been killed by bombs dropped by our coalition. If you
would like to help the people of Iraq you can check out USAID
at http://www.usaid.gov/iraq/
Please continue to give to the people of Southeast Asia and
start if you haven’t yet but please keep this thought
on the backburner of your mind and remember people in other
parts of the world that have been suffering for years because
of causes beyond their control.
