More Than Enough

As I was watching bits and pieces of the inauguration ceremonies today I couldn’t help but feel thankful. What a country we live in. What a fine Republic. However I also felt guilty. How blessed we are as Americans. How is it though that so many, in other places and in other times haven’t had enough? Why this paradox? Why when so many can have so much can other have virtually nothing at all? Why still today does where you live determine whether you live or whether you die? Why? It seems as though we, especially as Americans have an obligation to do a lot. It isn’t easy to step out of our “comfort zones” and I’d be one of the first to say, yet isn’t it noble enough to simply try? I suppose what I am challenging those who read this is to try. Walk to school for a day, feel what it is like to want but not have. Eat everything you purchase for lunch, and feel so thankful you were able to eat. Watch the sun set, and realize that in America you will have the chance to see it rise again in the morning. A heart that hurts is a heart that beats, and I realize we all struggle through life in one way or another, but for just one moment stop, breathe, and appreciate where you are, the Land of Plenty.
